Alex grew up in the suburbs of Pennsylvania, but always longed for more wild places. She loved trekking through the woods in her neighborhood, and bringing home all sorts of creatures and souvenirs, much to her mother’s distain.
After getting her B.A in conservation biology from SUNY-ESF, she dove into field work. The work took her to all sorts of amazing places; the sagebrush steppe of Eastern Oregon, the lakeside beaches of North Dakota, thirty feet high in trees, and waist deep in rivers. After years of running around outside, she decided that she wanted to share the process of science and nature with as many people as possible. This led her to start her M.S in Journalism at Boston University.
Alex loves being outside, photography, animals and odd projects. She was on a competitive roller derby team when she lived in Pennsylvania, and hopes to start the sport again someday.
