Gita Yingling (she/her) is a rising junior at Mount Holyoke College working towards a degree in both Environmental Studies and Studio Art. Gita is working as an interdisciplinary intern at VCE this summer, where she will work in science communication and community science projects along with spending time in the field doing tick surveying, bird banding, loon conservation, and butterfly and bee sampling.
She is passionate about environmental education, conservation science, ecology in the face of climate change, and working with kids outdoors. At Mount Holyoke, she works in the science center putting together displays using the college’s collection of samples and specimens to discuss the biodiversity and geology of the surrounding area. Through this position, she hopes to improve accessibility to science on campus through creative, engaging displays.
This is Gita’s first summer in Vermont, and New England as a whole! She grew up in Austin, Texas hiking limestone creekbeds and swimming in the springs before moving to Western Mass for college. Just this year, her family made a big move to Burlington, Vermont, where she finds herself fascinated by the ecology of Lake Champlain and the Champlain Valley. In her free time, you can find Gita painting, drinking bubble tea, cuddling with her cat, or laughing with her friends.
