Roger Pasquier is an associate in the department of ornithology at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. His career has been in ornithology and conservation, having worked in the American Museum and the U.S. National Museum and then with a succession of conservation organizations, including the International Council for Bird Preservation (now BirdLife International), the World Wildlife Fund-U.S., Environmental Defense Fund, and National Audubon Society. He was a founder of the Friends of the Peruvian Rainforest, a director and later chairman of RARE, treasurer of the Xerces Society, and a director of the World Parks Endowment (now Rainforest Trust, were he is on the advisory council). He is the author of several books on birds, including Watching Birds: An Introduction to Ornithology, Masterpieces of Bird Art: 700 Years of Ornithological Illustration, and most recently Birds in Winter: Surviving the Most Challenging Season.
