Before joining VCE as Associate Director, Dan worked for twenty years as a conservation biologist focused on the population status and habitat requirements of vulnerable species. He also led strategic initiatives for American Bird Conservancy, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Center for Northern Woodlands Education.
Dan’s interest in conservation science began when he was a student at Dartmouth College taking field courses at the University of Minnesota’s Forestry and Biological Station. A summer under the northern lights inspired him to take on ornithological field jobs in Alaska, on Mount Mansfield, and in Canada’s boreal forest. Dan earned a master’s in ecology and environmental biology from the University of Alberta and is an Elective Member of the American Ornithological Society. He loves to be on the water in a canoe and hopes to paddle in Nunavik someday.
