Flavia Orlandi Barros

Flavia Orlandi Barros is the Vice President of Institutional Research, Planning, and Analytics at
the American Museum of Natural History, where she leads data-informed analysis to inform strategy, planning, and measurement initiatives in support of the Museum’s mission and strategic plan. Since joining the Museum in 2014, she has led major initiatives to strengthen organizational effectiveness and advance evidence-based decision-making across departments. Her work supports the Museum’s goals through a deep commitment to clarity, collaboration, and strategic insight.

Before entering the cultural and nonprofit sector, Flavia spent 12 years with New York City’s Office of Management and Budget, where she worked on complex, high-impact projects that shaped the city’s infrastructure and public spaces. During her tenure, she contributed to major urban initiatives including the implementation of Citi Bike, the city’s bike-share system, and the development of the High Line, one of New York’s most iconic adaptive-reuse parks. Her experience in municipal planning and budgeting honed her expertise in public-sector strategy, operational analysis, and interagency coordination.

Flavia holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of São Paulo and a Master’s in Business Administration from the Zicklin School of Business’ Honors Program at Baruch College, City University of New York. Rooted in her academic and professional background, her work is guided by a passion for the environment, human rights, and the role that public and private institutions can play in fostering equitable, informed, and sustainable communities.

Originally from Brazil, Flavia has made New York her home with her two children, Cameron and Eric. She continues to be inspired by the intersections of culture, education, and social impact and remains committed to advancing mission-driven organizations that serve the public good.
