Jackie Quinones is an avian field technician supporting VCE’s migration ecology research this summer. Launching a new VCE project, she will catch, band, and radiotag Rusty Blackbirds, an endangered songbird in Vermont. She’ll also help banding operations on Mt. Mansfield by capturing and tagging Bicknell’s Thrush and Blackpoll Warblers. She’s thrilled to be here, as she hopes to study migration ecology in graduate school.
Traveling far and wide before coming to New England, Jackie graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS in Environmental Science and Policy; has operated migratory bird banding stations in Ontario with Long Point Bird Observatory and in Coastal California with Point Blue Conservation Science; and worked with numerous universities and agencies to study the breeding and movement ecology of Painted Buntings in Coastal Georgia, Bendire’s Thrashers in New Mexico, endangered Snail Kites in Florida and California Condors in the Redwoods.
When she isn’t navigating prime moose and beaver habitat, you can find her cooking elaborate meals, frequenting local farmer’s markets, or dabbling in some arts and crafts.
