Kari has worked for over three decades on environmental protection, with a primary focus on clean water. She is currently serving on two state study committees, focusing on clean water and flood resilience, respectively.
Most recently, Kari was a State Representative in the Vermont Legislature for six years, serving on appropriations and environment committees. Prior work included climate resiliency contractor with Quantified Ventures, director at the Department of Environmental Conservation that focused on civil rights compliance and toxics reduction in surface waters, manager of the Vermont Clean Water Initiative Program, state floodplain manager and coordinator of the National Flood Insurance Program, and water resources manager at the National Wildlife Federation’s northeast office. She also served as a hearing officer for the Vermont Public Utilities Commission.
Kari is the Waitsfield town meeting moderator and a board member of the Vermont Natural Resources Council. Kari had served on the Waitsfield Select Board, Waitsfield Planning Commission, Friends of the Mad River Board, and the Lake Champlain Citizens Advisory Committee. Kari holds a biology degree from Princeton University and two master’s degrees in science and public policy from the University of California, Berkeley. Kari and her husband, Chach Curtis, have grown children. Kari tries to squeeze in as much hiking, skiing, paddling and biking as she can.
