Congratulations to Kyle Jones for winning the April 2018 iNaturalist Vermont photo-observation of the month contest. The image of a pair of Great Blue Herons nesting was the most popular photo-observation.
Great Blue Herons were persecuted for plumes in the 1800s and became one of the first species to fall under the watchful eye of conservationists. The recent Vermont Breeding Bird Atlasshowed them breeding throughout Vermont, but they remain a conservation concern due to the sensitivity of colony nest sites to disturbance. Add your Great Blue Heron and other bird sightings to Vermont eBird or iNaturalist Vermont.
Visit iNaturalist Vermont, and you can vote for the winner this month by clicking ‘fav’ on your favorite photo-observation. Make sure you get outdoors and record the biodiversity around you, then submit your discoveries and you could be a winner!
