We had an incredible first season of data collection from the Adopt-a-Plant community, receiving 998 surveys from 227 unique volunteers. In total, community scientists recorded 2,364 unique interactions on their plants during their timed surveys. Considering that many folks reported that their plants did not flower this year, that is incredibly impressive!
Foxglove Beardtongue observations led the pack with 172 surveys completed, followed by Gray Goldenrod at 147 surveys.
Some folks reported Gray Goldenrod flowering incredibly late, and we saw the same in our gardens. In fact, here are pictures of open goldenrod and aster flowers in the frost at Cedar Circle Farm on November 19th:

Here’s a breakdown of the number of unique surveys submitted for each plant:

We’ll spend this winter crunching the numbers and comparing the species and ecotypes in different landscapes, and share any interesting findings before the next field season.
