This project is non-invasive, requires no effort from farms, and contributes to science that can inform best farming practices.
A VCE scientist will install bee hotels for cavity nesting bees, plus five trap nests in April. Then come back twice during the blooming season to conduct walks to record pollinator abundance. At the end of the season in September, the bees and traps will be removed.
For the second, expanded year of the Wild Bees on Farms project, VCE is recruiting two of each type of farm:
Upper Valley: Blueberry farms, Apple orchards, Sheep pasture
Champlain Valley: Winter squash and Soy farms
