The Bicknell’s Thrush northward route appears to be a bit more variable than the southbound route. Some individuals travel through the Florida isthmus, while others fly over the Bahamas before making it to the mainland. In 2024, the vast majority of the birds we captured at Reserva Zorzal were detected by a single Motus Tower in northern Florida.
As Bicknell’s Thrush migrate northward in late April and early May, they encounter obstacles, including windows and other infrastructure. In 2024, a Bicknell’s Thrush that was banded on Mt. Mansfield in Vermont was recovered after hitting a window in someone’s yard in Pampano Beach, Florida.
